All jazz hands on deck! With a program that visits Big Band classics from the likes of Gershwin, Ellington, Basie, and Piazzolla - to select only a handful - this RCNM Big Band retrospective will bring past master's pieces to life in the killer-diller present.

 

 

The Royal Northern College of Music Big Band was founded some 30 years ago to provide RNCM students of all ages with opportunities to develop their skills in jazz, commercial music, and improvisation.

One of the College’s major ensembles, the Band performs several different programmes each year, often with guest artists who bring their own musical flavor, repertoire and compositions to the stage. Recent guests include drummer Clark Tracey, singers Matt Ford and Clare Teal, and trombonist Mark Nightingale.

The repertoire for RNCM Big Band concerts spans from the formative styles of the 1920s right through to the contemporary sounds of Maria Schneider, Colin Towns, and everything in between. In 2014 the Band recreated the music of the Northern Dance Orchestra and was featured live on BBC Radio 3.
