Yu Erge’s latest work with strong personal style and experimental spirit

A combination of acrobatic, contemporary dance and body theater to break the stereotypes and reshape the body

A strange figure hiding behind a mask, a white sink, a 19-century-style cabin on the stage

Inspired by literature, it tells a modern history of female disappearance

Magic realism, a thrilling and absurd metaphor of man and woman

Original neoclassical and electronic music to create a minor horror feeling

Love is colder than death

A story about women, love and conflicts

Introduction

The work is inspired by Faulkner’s novel  "A Rose for Emily" and presents a deformed society from a woman's perspective in a magic realism way, exploring and mourning an ordinary woman who was squeezed by various social relationships until she disappeared. It is a "modern history of female disappearance". The play combines highly skilled traditional acrobatics,  contemporary dance and body theater, using a bold and daring experimental spirit to de-structure and reshape the body, to create a mysterious, thrilling and absurd vibe.

Inspired by literature, a modern history of female disappearance

The work is inspired by William Faulkner's novel  "A Rose for Emily" and focuses on the subject of women’s survival and tries to explore the many  difficult situations for a woman. It presents a deformed society from a woman's perspective in a magic realism way, exploring and mourning an ordinary woman who was squeezed by various social relationships until she disappeared. It is both a "modern history of female disappearance", as well as a realistic fable.

The latest work of Yu Erge’s body theater

The dance choreographer Yu Erge has a unique personal style and experimental spirit. He has been continuously challenging crossover body performances in recent years with works such as "Moli", "Time Wheel", and "Night Eagle", seeking the limit of physical expression. This play continues the director's strong dramatic tension, black absurd style, and sensitive and subtle perception of human nature.

Unprecedented exploration of the body

The play combines traditional acrobatics and contemporary dance, while adding in intense dramatic techniques to create a new form of physical performance. By breaking and reshaping the bodies of acrobats and modern dancers, it explores the limits and possibilities of the body with the idea of "de-acrobatics". It tries to achieve full freedom of the body, and strives to present an unprecedented journey of physical exploration.

Original neoclassicism music

The original music of the entire play uses a large number of orchestral instruments and electronic music blended together, forming chords, tonality, and rhythm with conflicts. In many aspects such as rhythm and harmony in classical music composition techniques, it reflects a contemporary sense and achieves a balance between the two means.
