INTRODUCTION
BEFORE YOU WAKE UP is inspired by the ancient pre-Qin text Zhuangzi and unfolds as a fable about humanity's struggle with desire.The divine bird DiJiang,the most carefree being since the dawn of creation,embodies the essence of all things and shares eternity with the sun and moon.One day,the arrival of Wǎngliǎng (malevolent spirits) disrupts the balance that has endured for tens of thousands of years.Through a secret and cruel ritual,Wǎngliǎng schemes to drag Di Jiang into an abyss of insatiable desire.By opening Di Jiang's seven orifices (two eyes,two ears,two nostrils,and one mouth),they seek to siphon the bird's natural essence accumulated overmillennia,achieving their own spiritual immortality.

The opening of the seven orifices symbolizes the extension of life's desires,marking Di Jiang's transition from being one with all things to the desire to possess them.From savoring the sweetness of desire to becoming the master of its fate,Di Jiang ultimately depletes the essence of heaven and earth to fulfill its cravings.This act severs its innate divinity,leading to its collapse.In its final moments,consumed by agonizing inner conflict,DiJiang glimpses the primal core of life in a dream.It dissolves its ego and returns to the embrace of nature,embarking on a new cycle of renewal and rebirth.

HUANG Jiaqi has participated in organizing the Mid-Autumn Night event in Zhengzhou, Henan, performing classical long-sleeve dance. As a dance performer, she took part in events like the 70th National Day celebrations (October 2020) and the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Paralympic Games (January 2022). She has also been involved in performances at the Central Academy of Drama, including A Battlefield Without Smoke (June 2023) and Mobile Phone Unsolved (December 2023).
