Synopsis:

The Egyptian prince Tamino was chased by a giant snake and was rescued by the maid of the Queen of the Night. The Queen of the Night showed the portrait of her daughter Pamina to the prince, and the prince fell in love at first sight. The Queen of the Night told the prince that her daughter was taken away by the villain Sarasto, and that as long as the prince rescued Pamina, she would marry her to him. The Queen of the Night gave the prince a magic flute that could save him from trouble, and the prince set out to rescue Pamina.

In fact, Sarasto is the master of wisdom and the leader of the "Nation of Light". The Queen of the Night's husband, the Emperor of the Night, gave him the magic sun mirror and his daughter Pamina before his death. Therefore, the Queen of the Night was very dissatisfied and tried to destroy the Temple of Light to regain her daughter. Alfred Wright Bass
