A Bridal Dance Raid
Tangerine and trifoliate orange: similar in the leaves, different in the taste. The Bride is about removal and misplacement. It touches the notion of identity in a familial context. Spotlighting the temporal and ritualistic woman figure: the bride, this dance piece relates in a magical and surreal style the connections and conflicts of younger generation versus their traditions.
Taking three days off from her metropolitan life, a young daughter comes back to the rural hometown to hold her wedding ceremony. The ritual soon becomes a group portray of kins and a topography sketch of familial relations.
The Bride experiments a very special creative process in which the materiality of one specific object is taken as the core in developing the performance. This object, PE plastic shading sheet, is placed in the center of the choreography. Its material and formal characteristics organizes the progression of image and the score of movement in the dance work.
