Romanian “Oltenia” Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 1904 and established by royal decree no. 131, promulgated by King Mihai I as head of state in 1947.
Over 80 professional musicians form the orchestra; the repertoire of the renowned ensemble includes masterpieces of symphonic and vocal-symphonic music (misse, oratorios, cantatas, and requiems), musical jewelry, symphonic jazz, symphonic rock, concerts in non-conventional spaces, covering a broad historical period, from the Baroque to the present day.
The Philharmonic Orchestra has been invited to perform concerts on the most important stages in Romania and made successful tours in France, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, Gibraltar, former Yugoslavia, the former Soviet Union, Bulgaria, Islamic Republic of Iran or Greece. Throughout time, the Orchestra was conducted by prestigious masters of the baton, as well as by renowned soloists.
