Conductor CHEN Xieyang graduated from Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He was formerly the permanent conductor of Shanghai Ballet Orchestra and president of China National Opera House.

 

On invitation in 1982, he directed the orchestra at the Aspen Music Festival in the United States. He acted as the head of Shanghai Symphony Orchestra in 1984 and was appointed its music director two years later.

 

Currently, he serves as the music director of Suzhou Symphony Orchestra, an honourary music director of Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, a specially invited conductor of China National Symphony Orchestra.

 

 

As a national-level orchestra directly under the Ministry of Culture, China National Traditional Orchestra, founded in 1960 under the direction of Premier ZHOU Enlai, is regarded as the standard-setter, model and benchmark of China's folk music performance.

 

China National Traditional Orchestra not only performs typical traditional music in various forms but dabbles in contemporary Chinese music, western classic music and other genres.

 

In 1998, 1999 and 2010, the Orchestra staged the Grand Spring Festival Concerts at the Golden Hall of Vienna, Austria, whose performance won warm applause from the audience.
