Chinese orchestra is typically divided into 4 sections, according to the way they are played. The 4 sections are: Bowed string, Plucked string, Wind, Percussion.

 

The Chinese string instrument (bowed) is also known generically as Huqin. The direct translation of Huqin is ‘barbarian fiddle’ but he truth is far from it. It is often called the Chinese violin and is seemingly more versatile than the western violin.

 

 

The plucked stringed instrument section was incorporated into the Chinese orchestra mainly because of the pipa and guzheng. These two instruments have a huge influence on Chinese traditional music, and many pioneers of the modern Chinese orchestra play the plucked string instruments themselves.

 

 

With a hundred-fold variety of wind instruments in Chinese folk music, wind instruments in the Chinese orchestra have been standardized to the following: dizi, sheng, xun, xiao, suona and guanzi.

 

In Chinese opera,It is capable of deepening an actor’s character, complimenting singing and pushing for a climax.
