Southern Guangdong has a long tradition of lion dance. The children of the neighbouring four villages, Ah Sheng and Long Shao, are actively preparing to win the Lion King of Sanyuanli Village.
On the eve of the competition, Ah Sheng and Long Shao fight for the first time in a teahouse, and Ah Sheng wins narrowly. Long Shao's sister, Feng'er, is secretly in love with Ah Sheng, and the two meet under the moon, and their feelings for each other are shared. Lung Siu has lost all his family honour and is willing to smoke in order to win. His mother is firmly against his son's practice of martial arts and lion dance because of his past enmity.
On the day of the competition, the invaders' artillery attacked, Guangzhou city broke down, the home was full of ravages, Feng'er blood stained the ruins. At the time of the national tragedy, the two of them, with their past grudges melting away, join hands to fight against the foreign enemy and beat the drums to fight against the lions with the villagers of Sanyuanli.

The dance drama "Awakening Lion" takes the southern lion as the god, and also takes the Nanquan, wooden fish rap and many other Guangdong non-legacy projects as the creative elements, takes its shape, shapes its god, and fully realises the "creative transformation and innovative inheritance" of the local excellent traditional culture.
In terms of artistic style, the play takes the profound Lingnan humanities as the carrier, showing the strong Lingnan characteristics and Guangzhou features; in terms of choreography, it takes the aesthetic vision of modern people as the starting point, incorporates more innovative elements, tries to use multi-media technology as the performance, and integrates the environment and performances, so as to create a modern sense of conception and visual impact of the stage; and it tries to combine the folk dance and traditional lion dance with two different art forms in terms of the innovation of dance techniques. In terms of innovation in dance technique, it tries to integrate the two different art forms of folk dance and traditional lion dance, and organically integrates the Nanquan horse stance as well as the difficult techniques of the Southern School of Lion Dance such as tottering, scooting, dodging, pouncing, pirouetting, flying and so on into the language of dance, which vividly expresses the image of the lion in the drama and at the same time makes the whole dance drama appear to be strong and soft and full of tension between strength and beauty, which is a bold and useful exploration in the art.
