Burning Man is now a network of regional events spanning the globe and Dragon Burn is China's official Burn event. While there are some things about a Burn that may not be clear to you now, there is one special thing to know: you are the event.

Dragon Burn is 5 days of camping held on beautiful, secluded land in Anji, Zhejiang - an adventure of art, music, interaction, participation and fire.

At a festival you are the consumer of centrally organised entertainment for the exchange of money and at the expense of trash. But Dragon Burn is not a festival. It's the unfestival. All arts installations, music, entertainment, workshops and performances are brought by other participants and on-site, money is banned. The event is organised, built and dismantled by participants. There’re no vendors, no sponsors, no profit.

Since nothing can be bought or sold, all participants must bring their own shelter, food and drink for the duration and embrace the culture of 'gifting'. You may be surprised to be gifted without reason anything from a free dinner to a free massage lesson and once accustomed to this abundance, you may also feel the will to give without reciprocation.

For many, Dragon Burn is a container for personal growth and new experiences so check out a workshop, installation or a panel discussion. Set an intention beyond just fun and use your Burn as an opportunity to learn about others, the world and yourself. It may be eye-opening or even life-changing.

Find out more about Dragon Burn (including how to contribute) at www.DragonBurn.org

The event will host participant contributions including:

  • Interactive arts installations
  • Multiple 'Theme Camps' each with their own character and programme of events, from live music and roller disco to spiritual healing
  • Workshops ranging from acrobatics and adventure sports to mindfulness and art where you can learn or experience something new
  • DJs and musicians bringing their own music and performances
  • Massive art sculpture bonfires

FAQs:

Do I need to bring a tent and sleeping bag?

You will need both a tent and a sleeping bag, plus anything else to make your sleep more comfortable. It will be warm in Anji in May, but it still gets cold at night and it might still rain so come prepared! Check out our list of what to bring for more information.

Will there be tent rentals?

There are no tent rentals. In the past, this has caused the Burn to lose some of its non-commercial feels. It’s perfectly fine to rent a tent from somewhere else and bring that to the Burn, however.

How do I get to the Dragon Burn site?

There will be buses leaving Shanghai on Friday, May 1 at 8 AM. If you want to take one of these buses you must purchase a bus ticket here: https://www.247tickets.com/t/dragon-burn-bus-ticket

If you would prefer to make your own way to the site or are coming from outside of Shanghai, check out our guide to getting to the site.

How much space is there for camping?

This year we have a larger site with more camping space. There are designated areas for the theme camps and plenty of space for everyone else to camp, but if you show up late you may need to get a bit cosy.

Is there quiet camping?

If you’re showing up on Wednesday evening then it is unlikely you will find a quiet spot to camp. We will reserve some space in the quieter areas for people coming with young children. We will also have a quiet time from early morning until around midday during which sound camps will not be allowed to play music.

Can I bring my pet?

We are animal lovers ourselves and know they are cute and fun to play with. But in a multi-participant event, they can get lost and, unlike humans, they don’t use toilets or abide by the ten principals. No animals except service animals will be allowed at the event.

If you wish to bring a service animal please email us @ info@dragonburn.org.

Where can I buy food/water/beer/other?

Dragon Burn is an event based on Radical Self Reliance. This means you need to bring everything you need with you for the entire Burn – shelter, food, water and anything else you want to bring.

Dragon Burn is also an experiment in decommodification. There will be no money exchanged on site, and there will be no food or drinks for sale.
