In Shanghai, the question is often asked: Western import or local tradition? In the case of drag, the answer is…both! Drag has both a long history in China and unlimited mutability. Western and Chinese traditions fuse in this art form through fashion, styling, choreography, and performance...
…and when East and West collide, stars emerge! From Zhang Qiang’s disco ballads, to Faye Wong’s fusion of Beijing and indie rock; from Lin Yilian’s use of traditional Chinese with R&B music, the Taiwanese and rock music stylings of Wubai – the clash of East and West has left monuments in global history.
On August 28th, 10 drag performers will bridge the global gap with their unique style, performing a bilingual variety show that showcases the best of both poles. Join us to experience Chinese pop, Western music and the unlimited potential of drag performance.
The 10 drag performances are just part of the fun planned. The Pearl’s Red Stars will also be performing top dance classics from the 70s right up to curretnhits to create a full party night. Drag, Live Music, Great Drinks, and Yummy food provided by Chef Baidas. The Pearl has a whole night of drag bliss and entertainment planned for you!
