Li’s thrilling production makes its overseas debut at Huayi, featuring a star-studded cast that includes actor Hu Jun (Red Cliff), stage veteran Pu Cunxin and actress Lu Fang, as well as costumes by award-winning Hong Kong art director and costume designer William Chang (In the Mood for Love, The Grandmaster) and renowned stage and lighting designer Michael Simon. This is a dynamic modern revival of Hamlet that is gripping from start to finish.
Hamlet, the Prince of Denmark, returns home for his father’s funeral to find his mother married to his uncle. His father’s ghost appears and instructs Hamlet to avenge him. Hamlet struggles with his doubts about whether he can trust the ghost and if killing his uncle is the appropriate thing to do. Thus, begins Hamlet’s descent into melancholy, madness and death. Hamlet is a work of time-defying political and psychological commentary that has remained poignant and relevant even after four centuries
