Cuban Dance Pinnacle - I am Cuba
China Tour - Shanghai stop coming in June!

Columbus landed here
He wrote in his diary that this is the most beautiful land ever seen by mankind

There is such a dance troupe
She packs the colourful beauty of this land into her bag.
Travelling over 13,000 kilometres halfway across the world
To bring a work of art that took five years to create.
To China, an old friend who still shares the same heart and soul through the long years.
With songs and dances and the most heartfelt voice: ‘I am Cuba’.

I am Cuba’ is a museum of Cuban dance, reflecting the diverse passions of American art. In the dance ‘I am Cuba’, the audience will follow the transformation of the stage and go with the dancers into the bars, residential buildings, esplanades, parks and carnivals of Cuba, exploring the history, music and culture of the Caribbean, showing the essence of the culture born out of rhythm, dance and music, which is renewed and revitalised in different dimensions. And of course, the Spanish dance with rattles, arms in the air and long skirts in the air.
The artistic conception of ‘I am Cuba’ originated from the internationally acclaimed film of the same name made by the famous Soviet director Mikhail Kalatozov in the 1960s, and was created by Eduardo Vidia, the principal dancer and choreographer of the Cuban National Spanish Dance Company, specifically for this trip to China, which took five years from the beginning of the creative process in 2019 to the debut of the show in 2024. It took five years to create and polish the work, and the whole company has devoted their efforts and sincerity to it.
The creation cycle of the work includes important events and times such as ‘Celebration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cuba’, ‘Commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Alicia Alonso’, ‘Celebration of the signing of the cooperation plan for the construction of the Belt and Road’, and ‘The signing of the cooperation plan for the construction of the Belt and Road’. ‘Cuba was the first country in the Western Hemisphere to establish diplomatic relations with the new China. Cuba is the first country in the Western Hemisphere to establish diplomatic relations with New China, and the people of China and Cuba also share a long history of deep friendship and common great ideals, so the dance ‘I am Cuba’ can be regarded as a magnificent stage poem for the Chinese people to sing the praises of Cuba.

Synopsis of the play:
The play is divided into five chapters: Cuban Night, Residential Building, Promenade, Dancing in the Park and Tropical Ball. Through artistic methods, the most typical scenes of Cuban public life are presented on the stage, and the poetic stage language is used as the artist's eyes, as if it were a long lens that speaks freely about the heat and coolness of this land, and the history, music and culture of the Caribbean region is presented on the stage, which is both light and easy. The history, music and culture of the Caribbean are all presented on the stage, relaxed and heavy, cheerful and deep at the same time. ......
The stage seems to create a museum of Cuban-style Spanish music and dance: flamenco, rumba, bolero, bachata, danzón and other dances have appeared on the stage, showing the elegance, precision and rigour of the heritage of the College Dance Group, the live orchestra's hooting and playing and singing to reproduce the interpretation of the Spanish classics, with the most original voice to bring the ocean's coarseness and expanse.

Troupe Profile:
The Cuban National Spanish Dance Company, led by principal dancer and choreographer Eduardo Vidia, was founded in 1987 and was the first group in Latin America to perform Spanish academic dance. Originally known as the Spanish Dance Company, it was directed by legendary dancer Alicia Alonso. Shortly after its debut, the company changed its name to the Havana Spanish Dance Company in order to diversify its repertoire; in view of its reputation in the field of dance teaching and artistic performance, the name was finally changed to the Cuban National Spanish Dance Company at the end of 2000, making it a national dance company. The company has a diverse repertoire.
The company's repertoire is diverse, ranging from classical dances to the most authentic flamenco, as well as a fusion of different styles of dance.
