"The first and only ice musician" - CNN
"First person" - Financial Times
Ice Music is a new art form where the musicians play on instruments made of ice. Sounds unbelievable, but it’s happening. Step into the concert hall a gigantic cosmic igloo. The orchestra glows and pulsates in all the colours of the rainbow. Be swept away by the crisp, rich and energetic sound – the voice of ice.
Terje Isungset
Terje Isungset is one of Europe’s most accomplished and innovative percussionists. With over two decades experience in jazz and Scandinavian music he is taking these types of music far beyond their traditional boundaries, becoming more like a cross between a sound artist and a shaman.
Crafting his own instruments from Norwegian natural elements such as arctic birch, granite, slate, sheep bells and even ice, he is highly recommended to those sensible to the poetry and simplicity of sounds. “Timbres” and “colours” are central in Terje Isungsets music and compositions. In the press, his work has often been described as innovative, visual, energetic, and different from any previously known concepts.
a pioneer in icemusic since 1999. Percussionist & composer Terje Isungset has since the late 1980's combined natural elements in his music through use of wood, stones, metal, machine sounds etc.
The use of ice was long a dream, but seemed unachievable.
In 1999 Terje was commissioned to make a concert held in a frozen waterfall ordered by the Lillehammer Winter Festival. He decided to use elements from the river itself as musical instruments in his composition. Stones, wood and finally: ICE, were included.
Isungset got the idea of making an icemusic festival. Worlds first Icemusicfestival took place at Geilo-Norway by first full moon 2006.
In 2007 the first icemusic tour ever took place. In total 33 concerts.
