The play features many of Venice's world-famous landmarks, such as St Mark's Square, the Grand Canal and Lagoon, the Duomo, and Piombi Prison, as well as a wide range of characters, including noblemen, courtesans, statesmen, doge, inquisitors, braviers, and commoners. The highly restored scenery as well as the costumes bring the splendour of Venice back to the stage, making the audience feel as if they were also in the midst of the revelry.

 

Renowned musical theatre actor Gian Marco Schiaretti leads the cast in the title role of Giacomo Casanova. Gian is well known to audiences for his brilliant performances in the musicals Notre Dame de Paris and Don Giovanni, and Casanova - Lover of Venice is a significant return to Italian musical theatre for the first time after 13 years of appearing in numerous international productions.

 

At the launch of Shanghai Culture Square's 2024 Year-End Season in June, Gian unveiled the work with a rendition of Casanova's Theme Song. At the end of the year, travel with Casanova to the carnival night in Venice and experience the desire, passion, struggle, friendship, and longing for life, justice and love on stage.
