The origins of the Neaples Royal Philharmonic Orchestra can be traced back to the Royal Palace Conservatory of Music, where, in 1895, it was established as the accompaniment orchestra at Teatro di San Carlo (Royal Theatre of Saint Charles) in Neaples. At the Royal Theatre of Europe, the orchestra performed numerous classical repertoires. Michelangelo Galeati, one of the great orchestra conductors, using the classic Italian style inherited from previous generations and his own creativity ushered in a new era for the orchestra on the international stage. Neaples International Classical Music Week, first sponsored by the orchestra in 1992, has become a major music event in Italy and Europe and has been approved by the Italian government as a major international festival.
