The story behind this trip:

A couple of years ago, Travelers Society set an unconventional goal. We wanted to try to get to a water town by water - using kayaks and a map... This turned out to be one of the coolest things we ever did.  Because the residents of the ancient town had never seen kayakers and had hardly had any previous contact with foreigners, we were greeted by cheering onlookers as we paddled through the maze of canals.   We wanted to bring this experience to all of you and made it a Travelers Society trip, open to everyone :)

Day 1 

19:00 – Meet at Hongkou metro station exit 3 (line 8 and line 3, only 4 stops north of People's Square)  

19:30 – Hop on the bus and head to Xitang, one of China's best-preserved ancient towns

21:00 – Arrival, check in to our local hostel and have a few drinks in town

Day 2      

07:30 - Simple Western breakfast     

08:30 - Start our kayaking expedition  

12:00 - Get off for a rest and have our picnic           

13:30 - Continue kayaking through fisheries      

17:00 - Arrive at the ancient town via the canals and have dinner

19:00 - Hop on the bus   

19:30 - Check-into our hotel

20:00 - Bonfire party and drinks

Day 3 

08:00 - Simple Western breakfast

09:00 - Set off for the starting point of our hike

10:30 - Start the hike and visit a really cool monastery with a beautiful lake view

12:30 - Local specialty lunch

13:30 - Visit the lake and taste some local tea

15:00 - Hop on the bus and relax on the way back to Shanghai

17:30 - Arrive in Shanghai
