In the New Year of 2025, the much-anticipated collection of musical feasts kicks off! As the surprise section of the Great World of Performing Arts - 2025 Shanghai International Musical Theatre Festival, the 2025 Star Concert Series will bring together the star performers of German-Austrian, London West End and French-language musical theatre, with special guests and friends, to sound the first horn of the 2025 Shanghai Culture Square annual season. Seven musical theatre stars and ten spectacular performances will respond to the love and expectations of every audience, bringing a diverse musical feast to ignite enthusiasm at the beginning of the New Year!
Maya Hakvoort, the versatile queen of musical theatre, has conquered the hearts of countless viewers with her superb acting and highly atmospheric singing. From Elizabeth in Elizabeth to Norma in Sunset Boulevard, from Eva in Madame Beron to Lily in Kiss Me, Kate, she has portrayed one classic role after another. This year Maya even challenged herself to perform Lady Macbeth in the original musical Lady M, giving the audience a new surprise.
Maya's relationship with Culture Square dates back to 2014, when she was invited to sing ‘I Belong to Myself’ with Roberta Valentini, who played ‘Princess Sissi’ in ‘Elizabeth’ at the time, creating a great story in the stage history of ‘Elizabeth’ and opening a special journey with the Chinese audience. A special bond was opened with the Chinese audience. Since then, Maya has sung more than ten golden songs in the German-language musical theatre star concert in 2019. The 2023 solo concert will include more than 20 classic songs from musical theatre roles she has performed in the past, which can be described as a whole musical theatre life.
For this concert, Maya will be joined by her new partner, Ginger Gasoy-Romdal Yngve Gasoy-Romdal (who played Mozart in the 1999 Viennese premiere of Mozart! ) in the 1999 Vienna premiere of ‘Mozart!’ for a unique musical feast. In addition to German-language musical theatre classics, Uncle Ginger will present a surprise Norwegian-language musical theatre solo. After a year's absence, Maya will once again use her voice to bring you into her musical world and experience the unique charm.
