ODUCHU
Tuva, Russia
ODUCHU is a conceptual, musical project created in the summer of 2018 by 2 musicians from Tuva: Chingis Sorzhu and Mengi Mongush.
The archaic word "Oduchu" is translated as a healer. The project is engaged in the search, selection and analysis of Tuvan folklore and breathes new life.
The idea is that anyone can listen to it.
And will take truly pleasure.
ODUCHU band member Chingis Sorju studied music engineering in St Petersburg. From the frontier grassland to the big city, enjoying different landscapes and life, he however expresses his longing to return to his hometown in the course of time. Because he realises that no matter how hard you try, you are still copying and carrying around western music. If you want to be serious about original music, then you have to dialogue with the roots. And hometown just has that magical power that pulls and attracts and makes him feel like he's part of nature.
Another member, Mengi Mongush, is a hula artist who rose to fame at a young age, with Kaigal-ool Khovalyg, a founding member of Heng Hatu, as his hula leader, and Kongar-ool Ondar, the godfather of the modern Tuvan hula, as his teacher.
