"The lakeside stage in Bregenz is a show of opera spectacles. Kasper Holten's opera "Carmen" created in Ess Devlin's extraordinary setting is a must-see!"
Introduction of works:
Bizet’s "Carmen" is definitely an evergreen tree on the world opera stage. In the 140 years since its birth in 1872, it has been the most frequently performed and most popular opera in the world. Among them, "Habañera (Love is a Free Bird)" and "Matador's Song" are all known, and both listeners and singers favor them. "Carmen Overture" was opened by countless symphony performances. The opera "Carmen" is based on the French novelist Merrime's novel of the same name. It is based on real life and adopts realism in its content to truly portray social figures. This new version of "Carmen" on the Bregenz Lake stage is directed by Kasper Holten. Stage designer Ace Devlin has designed concert sets for pop star Adele, U2, Take That, Pet Shop Boy and Kanye West. Devlin created an impressive 21-meter high playing card main set structure. These playing cards seem to hover between two huge hands. Not only are they part of the scene, they can also be used as a background for projection.
Synopsis:
Carmen, a female worker in the tobacco factory, is a beautiful and stubborn gypsy girl. She made the military squad leader Don Jose fall in love and abandoned his lover in the countryside-the gentle and kind Micaela. Later, Don Jose was arrested and imprisoned for letting her fight with the female workers. After being released from prison, he joined her as a smuggler. But then Carmen fell in love with the bullfighter Escamillo, and when people cheered for Escamillo's victory in the bullfight, she died under Don Jose's dagger.
