Unknown to most Shanghai residents, our city is home to a rich biodiversity of birds. They either stay here all year round or many more choose its suburban wetlands as a pitstop on their way North in spring and on their way South in fall.
The United Nations celebrate twice a year on May 11 and October 12 one of nature’s most enthralling spectacles: the migration of birds. In observance of October 12 world bird migration day, we are delighted to invite one of Shanghai’s foremost birders, Dr. Kai Pflug, to show us the best shots of his objects of affection.
Join us on Saturday, October 5th for this unique opportunity to learn more about our winged friends under the guidance of Kai. The native German who has been living in Shanghai for the last 15 years, became only recently interested in birds in China – so he is much more familiar with birds in China than with those in Germany. While only an average birder, he aims to be a good bird photographer and has created a website with bird photos as proof. He hopes not too many clients of his consulting company read this blog, as they will doubt his dedication to providing consulting services related to China`s chemical industry. Whenever he wants to shock other birders, he tells them his (indoor) cats can distinguish several warblers by taste.
