《PingTan Impression》
PingTan Impression is a contemporary re-interpretation and re-expression of traditional Chinese folk culture with a long history in a romantic classical mythological narrative, constructing a common marine cultural scene and vein across the Taiwan Strait, using imaginative New Eastern aesthetics as the aesthetic concept, integrating non-genetic inheritance, and being performed by artists from both sides of the Taiwan Strait. The performance, created by artists from both sides of the Taiwan Strait, tells a classical mythological epic with strong oriental colors, depicts an artistic scroll with dance as the brush and culture as the ink, and presents a stage masterpiece of cross-strait humanistic exchanges and integration.
The Peacock Princess's self-transcendence "PingTan Impression" is the eighth large-scale stage production and the first stage production with the theme of traditional folk culture and marine culture, which is also the third production of the "Reflections" series after "Dynamic Yunnan" and "Huangshan Impression", which is known as the "Peacock Princess". It is also the third work in the "Images" series after "Dynamic Yunnan" and "Huangshan Impression", and is an innovative breakthrough and bold attempt by Yang Liping, who is known as the "Peacock Princess". While realizing the self-transcendence on the theme, Yang Liping also maintains and shows the consistently high level of dance art and high pursuit of stage effects, and deeply integrates the Haisi culture, Taiwan and the sea culture as well as the local culture of Pingtan, creating a masterpiece of Taiwan and the sea culture with an international vision and a high level of artistic standards.
PingTan Impression showcases Pingtan's original natural scenery and human customs from four aspects: nature, history, humanity and modernity. In each chapter, traditional culture and art forms are combined with modern high-tech choreography and special effects technology and popular elements to sublimate cross-strait origins and folk culture, triggering everyone's reflection thinking and interpreting the scene of unity between heaven and man in a paradise beyond the world.
Synopsis
The background of the story originates from the creation of the world after Pangu opened up the sky and earth, the birth of the nine states and the auspiciousness of the sky, and the first birth of all the spirits. There is an overseas island, Pingtan Island, which is called "Kirin Island" because it looks like the mythical beast Kirin. The residents of the island live and work in peace and contentment, making a living by fishing, being watched over by the "local magistrate", Cheng Huang, and blessed by the "Goddess of the Sea", Mazu. The Prince of the White Dragon, "King of Junshan" and the daughter of the sea, "Pingtan Blue", met on the island and fell in love, joining hands with the islanders to ride out the storms and fight typhoons together. Every time when the wind and rain are favorable, they release sky lanterns together to pray for their well-being. However, the calm and peaceful Kirin Island is coveted by a foreign army with ambition and greed, and after a long time of planning, they launch an invasion of Kirin Island, and the situation is at stake. Since then, the brave and kind-hearted King Junshan and Pingtan Lan, the righteous Toupai defenders, the merciful and loving gods, and the vicious foreigners have composed a magnificent classical mythological epic about guardianship and justice on Kirin Island.
