The Kemerovo Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the six most prestigious orchestras in Russia. The orchestra's musicians come from higher music schools in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk and Ekaterinburg. In the 1990s, the orchestra successfully completed a tour of Europe, including Hungary, Germany, Switzerland, Malta, Belgium, France, Spain, Austria and other countries. The repertoire of the orchestra covers the works of almost all world-famous composers, such as Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Dvorak, Berlioz, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Prokofiev, Glinka, Mussorgsky, Borodin, Stravinsky, Strauss, and so on, and the orchestra has accumulated a large number of performance repertoire and rich performance experience.

 

Since 2000, the Chinese conductor Lin Tao has been the artistic director and permanent conductor of the orchestra, and in 2024 the orchestra celebrated its 70th anniversary with a series of celebratory performances, which caused a sensation at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. Under the baton of Lin Tao, the orchestra has been touring regularly in China since 2000 to critical acclaim. in June 2017, the orchestra held a unique open-air concert in Tianchi, followed by tours in Beijing, Jinan, Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Guangzhou and Nanjing in China. In its long history, the Russian State Philharmonic Orchestra of Kemerovo has won numerous international prizes in the field of musical specialisation, including the Vienna Music Competition ‘Voices and Melodies’, the Harmony International Music Competition, the Open World Music Competition in Paris, the Munich Festival 2008, and many others. Today, the Kemerovo State Philharmonic Orchestra is the most highly regarded artistic ensemble in the Kusbass region of Russia and receives special attention from the Russian state cultural authorities and the regional government.
