Shanghai Ballet dances to tune of classic Dumas tale! The ballet The Lady of the Camellias was created by the renowned choreographer Derek Deane, artistic director of Shanghai ballet and former artistic director of the English National Ballet.
The play unfolds the narrative in flashback, starting with the imminent death of Marguerite. Set to the moving music of Carl Davis, Derek Deane’s take on this poignant tale of two hopeful lovers explores both the beauty and anguish of impassioned love. His reputably challenging, yet breathtaking choreography journeys through love and loss in 19th Century Paris where Marguerite, a famous courtesan, and Armand, a young countryman, become entangled in a forbidden affair.
