World Snooker Shanghai Masters is a leading snooker tournament that represents the highest level of the world snooker events. It is also one of the most influential international sports events of China, which has been successfully held in Shanghai for 11 years since 2007. In 2018, it will come back with a brand new format and a higher prize money. Instead of ranking events, 24 players will compete in an invitational this year.
The 24 players invited will be the top 16 snooker players in the world, 4 Chinese players with the highest world ranking (If they are also world top 16 players, the following Chinese players on the ranking list will be invited), 2 recommended by Chinese Billiards and Snooker Association and 2 from Snooker Amateur Masters.
From 2018, the total prize money will increase year by year, with £725,000 in 2018, £750,000 in 2019, £775,000 in 2020, £800,000 in 2021 and £825,000 in 2022.
2018 World Snooker Shanghai Masters will be held at Regal International East Asia Hotel from 10th to 16th Sep. Snooker Amateur Masters, which is an important part of the bigger event, will start on 3rd Aug. It will be held in Shanghai, Chengdu, Shenzhen and Xi’an. Each destination will produce four players to compete in the final on 8th-9th Sep in Shanghai. The champion and runner-up will advance to World Snooker Shanghai Masters.
World Snooker Shanghai Masters has won praise and recognition for its first-class organizations, venues and hospitality. This year, world top snooker players will again gather in Shanghai and contest for the championship. With the brand new format, this event will also provide native players and amateurs with an opportunity to compete with professional snooker players from around the world. It will boost the growth of snooker in China and promote the sport to a higher level.
