The Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz Children's Choir was founded around 30 years ago and has been involved in many music theatre productions and concerts since then, including Die Zauberflöte, Carmen, La bohème, Hänsel und Gretel, Der Bajazzo, Wozzeck, Feuersnot, Im weißen Rössl, Das schlaue Füchslein, Johanna auf dem Scheiterhaufen and Das Beben, along with the musicals Marilyn and Tschitti Tschitti Bäng Bäng and Orff's Carmina Burana.
The artistic profile of the Choir is characterised by its strikingly wide-ranging musical approach, ranging from the classical concert genre through participation in musicals to grand opera. The Choir currently has around 60 active members aged between 7 and 16.
The Choir has been directed since 2004 by the experienced singing teacher, pianist and singer Verena Sarré, who also trains child soloists, such as the three boys in Die Zauberflöte, the brother and sister in Hänsel und Gretel and soloists for baroque operas.
In 2015, the Choir staged a well-received benefit concert in the Heilig-Geist-Kirche in Munich in aid of Syrian refugees. A wide range of concerts given by the Choir along with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Munich Radio Orchestra, including, most recently, the Paradisi Gloria series conducted by Ulf Schirmer in 2017, complete the Choir's profile.
