Swan Lake, as a must-perform theatre of all major ballet companies, has its own version. The Suzhou Ballet's production of Swan Lake comes from the Royal Winnipeg Ballet's version. This version, first performed in 1973, is Galina Yordanova's adaptation of Petipa's and Ivanov's classic version, and has been performed over 200 times.

This version of Swan Lake follows the essence of classical ballet, interpreting the centuries-old classic in its original flavour. SUBA invited international ballet masters Zhang Weiqiang and Caroline Gruber as rehearsal masters, and Tan Yuanyuan, a Chinese-American ballet artist and special professor of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, as Artistic Director. This is also the first premiere of Swan Lake that Tan Yuanyuan has ushered in with the cast since he was appointed as SUBA's Artistic Director.

Swan Lake" is based on a German medieval folk tale about the beautiful Princess Augusta, who is cursed by the Devil King to become a white swan and can only be restored to her body at night, and Prince Siegfried falls deeply in love with Augusta when he meets her by the lake. Prince Siegfried met Ojeta by chance at the lake and fell in love with her. The devil king, however, let his daughter disguise herself as Ojeta to deceive the prince on the evening of the prince's selection of the bride, and the prince was almost deceived, but he found out in time to kill the devil king and let the princess return to her original form, and the two lovers finally fell in love.

Founded in 2007, Suzhou Ballet is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Suzhou Cultural Investment and Development Group, and the only professional ballet company in Jiangsu Province, with performers from first-class ballet theatres at home and abroad.

Since its establishment, SBB has taken "domestic first-class, internationally renowned" as its development orientation, and has created and performed ten large-scale dance dramas such as "Romeo and Juliet", "Shih Tzu", "The Nutcracker", "Tang Yin", "Swan Lake", "My Name is Lilac", "Magnificent Clouds" and so on; and has created a number of distinctive present-day and contemporary ballets as well as choreographies which show the charm of Suzhou. The company has also created a number of characteristic contemporary ballets and dance works that show the charm of Suzhou. In the course of inheritance, SUBA has created a unique "Jiangnan Ballet" with innovative concepts.

Since 2014, a number of dance dramas of SUBA have been selected by the national, provincial and municipal art funds and other subsidised projects, and have been appointed by the state and invited by various countries to carry out international cultural exchanges, with performances in over 70 cities in more than 10 countries around the world, such as China, France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Singapore, Poland, Qatar, Bahrain, Turkey, Latvia, Oman, Spain, Algeria and so on. As a ballet master active on the international stage, she has led and starred in the full-length productions of Swan Lake, Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, The Nutcracker, Don Quixote, Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella, Othello, Onegin, etc., as well as modern ballet works of different styles and themes, such as After the Rain, The Firebird, The Theme from Paganini, Crying from a Distance, Stravinsky Violin Concerto, as well as George Balanchine and George Balanchine's Violin Concerto, and the Paganini Theatre. Vinsky Violin Concerto, as well as works by master choreographers such as George Balanchine and John Neumeier.

In 2015, Tan Yuan Yuan established the Tan Yuan Yuan International Ballet Studio at the Shanghai Theatre Academy. He edited and published the book "Art on the Pointe - A Tour of the World's Famous Ballet Troupe", jointly planned and published "DK Children's Ballet Book" (translation) with Beijing Science and Technology Publishing House, and jointly planned and published "DK Hundred Years of Ballet - Art on the Pointe" with Huazhong University of Science and Technology Publishing House, and Beijing Youshu Zimei Culture and Media Co. (translation).

In 2021, as Artistic Director and Co-Choreographer, Tan Yuan Yuan launched the dance music theatre "Tan Yuan Yuan and Her Friends - Fantasy Night at the Art Museum", which was successfully toured around the country and was widely acclaimed by the audience. 2022, she became the Director of the Dance Collaborative Innovation Centre of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, and in the same year, assumed the position of Artistic Director of the dance drama "The White Serpent", which has been hailed as a benchmark for promoting Chinese culture, and facilitating exchanges and appreciation between Chinese and foreign civilizations. In the same year, he was appointed as the artistic director of the dance drama "White Snake", which was praised as a benchmark work to promote Chinese culture and exchange between Chinese and foreign civilisations.

In October 2023, he was appointed as the Artistic Director of Suzhou Ballet.
