The creative world of French-born, Los Angeles-based producer/DJ/artist Guillaume P., aka G., spans endless sounds and multiple artistic scenes. As Plezier, he created melodious, piano-fueled house music and sensual UK garage in the first half of this decade. In his days as world-class turntablist/producer DJ Troubl during the aughts, he rose through the DJ ranks to become a two-time World Champion Turntablist.
A consummate creator and influential tastemaker, G. is best known for his seminal work as UZ, the masked, formerly anonymous project that helped originate, shape and internationalize modern trap music. As one of the genre’s founding fathers and forward-thinking innovators, UZ helped elevate trap from a nascent underground sound to a worldwide musical movement via his boundary-pushing production style.
Now seven years into his musical journey, UZ remains an active voice in trap, always pushing his beloved scene into new ground via his groundbreaking original music, speaker-rattling live sets and trendsetting label, Quality Goods Records.
The story of UZ begins back in 2011, when G. began to experiment with darker, bass-fueled tracks in his bedroom in his hometown of Poitiers, France. It was there where he would create the sonic elements behind the inimitable UZ sound-sparse, razor-sharp bass beats built on “crisp production techniques” (Spin), machine-gun drums, minimalist sound design and 808-heavy rhythms-and lay the foundation that would come to “define an entire movement” (Complex).
Shortly thereafter, UZ exploded onto SoundCloud in 2012 via his celebrated Trap Shit project, a long-running series of singles and tracks that are today considered genre-defining trap classics. Trap Shit-which ultimately concluded in 2015 after 25 installments and included official releases on Jeffree's (Mad Decent) and Boysnoize Records-has since garnered millions of collective streams.
The breakout success of Trap Shit led to UZ’s BallTrap Muzic Vol. 1 compilation (March 2013), commissioned by Red Bull Studios, which features contributions from Trinidad Jame$, Trae tha Truth, Problem, Salva, Casey Veggies, Djemba Djemba and many others.
UZ today counts nearly 200 releases across his vast discography. In June 2017, he released his debut album, Layers (Quality Goods Records), which features major collaborations with next-gen rappers and celebrated producers like QUIX, OG Maco, Craze, Elliphant, Foreign Beggars and Two Fresh, among many others. Led by power singles “Stockholm White” (+1.3M/Spotify) and “Gone” (+2.1M/Spotify), Layers peaked at #24 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Album Sales chart.
