September 30 - October 8: Let’s go…trekking & zip-lining in wild Yunnan!

 

This trip is all about exploring incredible cultural hinterlands of Yunnan near the Myanmar border! Hop in SUVs and go where the buses can’t take you.  We will be doing a combination of trekking and “off-roading” from Dali, over dirt roads to the border with Myanmar, and back again, taking in the incredible changing scenery, rich cultures and history, and beautiful nature along the way. Hike to awesome countryside villages,  slide down the coolest zip-line to cross the Nu River, trek along an ancient tea route, visit the last 36 tattooed-face women in the world, check out the culture along the Myanmar border, spend the night in a traditional farmhouse, have a bonfire party with the local minority people … and more!!!

Dates:  September 30 - October 8 (Saturday night to Sunday)

Day 1 -  Saturday –  September 30

• Meet at the hostel in Dali (near the ancient town)
• Chill out in Dali’s ancient town
• Accommodation : Hostel in Dali

 

Day 2 - Sunday– October 1

 

• Dali → Fugong (~400 km drive)

 

• Hop in our off road vehicles and head up the Nu River through incredible scenery
• Time to zipline across the Nu River!!!
• Stop at ancient Laomu Deng Village
• Accommodation : Hostel in Fugong

 

Day 3 - Monday –  October 2

 

• Fugong → Gongshan → Bingzhongluo (the heart of the Nujiang Grand Valley) (~160 km drive)

 

• Begin our drive through the picturesque canyon, stopping along the way at Stone Moon, Nu River Bay, and other scenic spots
• Chillax in the afternoon at Bingzhongluo  around the stove and taste the local butter tea and buckwheat cakes
• Accommodation : Hostel in Bingzhongluo

 

Day 4  - Tuesday – October 3

 

• Bingzhongluo → Zhongding Village → Shimen Guan → Wuli Village → Qiuna Tong (trekking day)

 

• After breakfast, begin our  ancient tea route trek to the beautiful village of Quina Tong [20km]
• Explore other villages along the way
• Accommodation : Homestay in Qiuna Tong

 

Day 5 -  Wednesday –  October 4

• Qiuna Tong forest trek [10 km]
• Begin a 5 hour hike into the primeval forest, streams, snow capped mountains
• Evening: Bonfire party time!!! + singing and dancing with Nu minority people
• Accommodation : Homestay in Qiuna Tong

 

Day 6 -  Thursday – October 5

 

• Qiuna Tong → Kongdang → Xianjiu Dang → Longyuan → Dizheng Dang → Kongdang (~200 km drive)

 

• Cross the awesome suspension bridges of the Dulong River and enter the Burmese heartland
• Trek down the canyon to an ancient village where we will meet and chat with the last few remaining ‘tattooed women’ (Only 36 left in the world!!)
• Accommodation : Homestay in Kongdang

Day 7 -  Friday – October 6  

 

• Kongdang → Bapo → Qinglang Dang → Maku → Yunnan-Myanmar border (trek) → Kongdang → Gongshan (~160 km drive)

 

• Head over to the southern part of the Longhong river near the border with Myanmar
• Check out awesome waterfalls
• Take a trek over to the border with Myanmar
• Accommodation : Hostel in Gongshan

 

Day 8 - Saturday – October 7

 

• Gongshan → Dali

 

• After breakfast, relax in the SUVs as we head back to Dali (arrive in time for dinner)
• Accommodation : Hostel in Dali

 

Day 9 - Sunday - October 8

• Head back home
• Accommodation : n/a

Not included- Flights to/from Dali, airport transfer

Included - 8 nights - Clean double occupancy rooms included in price.  These will be booked on a first come first serve basis.  If you wish to room alone, the single occupancy fee is an extra 1000 RMB per person total, first come first serve. (We can help you find someone to share if needed. However, if there is an uneven number of travelers, the single occupancy fee may apply. Pairings are distributed on a first come first serve basis.)

What you need to bring:

PASSPORT, camera/GoPro, walking shoes, small day pack, insect repellent, sunglasses, flip-flops, high-energy food, toiletries

 

Note: If your passport is in the visa office for processing, please bring the original slip of paper given to you by the authorities and a photocopy of your passport with you on the trip. This paper can be used for domestic travel instead of a passport.
