Founded on March 28^th 2018, the Shenzhen Opera and Dance Theatre is a state-owned public welfare cultural enterprise with opera troupe, dance troupe and chorus, engaged in the creation and performance of operas and dance dramas, undertaking important performance tasks and carrying out public cultural services and foreign cultural exchanges.

In terms of artistic positioning, the theatre adheres to the tenet of Chinese grandeur, contemporary style and international vision, implements the spirit of General Secretary XI's important speech at the Symposium on Literary and Artistic Work, aims to build a domestic first-class and internationally renowned artistic company, produces high-quality opera and dance productions, takes into account the dual development of classical and contemporary arts, tells the Chinese story, promotes the spirit of struggle and inherits national culture in the contemporary context.

Since its founding, the theatre has created and rehearsed original works such as the opera and dance poem Daughter of the Earth, the contemporary dance drama Dream Chaser, the dance poem City and the opera Forerunner. The 2021 dance works Eternal Life in the Flames and Portrait won the Double Lotus award for contemporary dance and modern dance at the 12^th China Dance Lotus Award evaluation. In addition, the theatre has also undertaken the Shenzhen Branch of the 2019 CCTV Spring Festival Gala, the 2019 Shenzhen Chinese New Year Opera Gala, the 2019-2022 Shenzhen Spring Festival Tea Party, the Gala to celebrate the 40^th anniversary of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, the 2021 Shenzhen “Bay Area Rising Moon” Mid-Autumn Film and Music Gala, the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games Shenzhen Branch and other major festivals and performances.
